Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) with HostingRoo
At HostingRoo, we take your account security seriously. That’s why we’ve introduced Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for the HostingRoo Client Area.
2FA adds an extra layer of protection to your login by requiring not just your password, but also a time-sensitive verification code. This greatly reduces the risk of unauthorised access to your account.
Enabling 2FA
After logging in to the Client Portal, from the top right drop down menu, select 'Security Settings'
Select the green 'Click here to enable'
Select 'Get Started'
Open your preferred 2-Factor Authentication app and add a new account using either the barcode or the manual setup code. Then, enter the verification code generated by the app and click 'Submit'.
Unsure of the App to use? Below are 4 suggestions:
Google Authenticator
Devices: Android, iOS
Simple, widely used, works offline.
Microsoft Authenticator
Devices: Android, iOS
Can back up accounts to the cloud.
Authy (by Twilio)
Devices: Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux
Cloud backup & multi-device support, useful if you use more than one phone or computer.
Duo Mobile (by Cisco)
Devices: Android, iOS
Enterprise-friendly, but free for individual users.
Write down your Backup Code and close the window. Be sure to store it somewhere secure, as this will be the only time it’s shown. The backup code is needed to access your account in the event you cannot complete two-factor authentication.
Congratulations! Your HostingRoo Two-Factor Authentication is now active, adding an extra layer of protection to keep your account secure moving forward.
Disabling 2FA
After logging in to the Client Portal, from the top right drop down menu, select 'Security Settings'
Select the red 'Click here to Disable'
You will be prompted to enter your Client Area password again - do so, then click on Disable Two-Factor Authentication.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is now disabled, however we highly recommend always using 2FA.
Emergency Code
If you are unable to log in using the generated code, you can use the emergency code that was provided when enabling 2FA.
1. On the verification screen, click on the Login using Backup Code button.
2. Enter in your emergency code in the text box, and click Login. You will be logged in, and 2FA will be automatically disabled.
3. You will need to re-enable this using the steps in this article if you wish to keep using 2FA.
